What was announced
ZF Commercial Vehicle Control Systems India has secured accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) for its Hemi Anechoic Chamber Testing Laboratory, located inside its approximately 200-acre proving ground near Chennai.
The accreditation is based on the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard, which formally recognises a laboratory's technical competence, test methods and quality systems. In simple terms, an anechoic chamber is a sound-absorbing room used to measure noise and vibration (NVH) from vehicles and components.
Facility details
- Chamber size: 144 sq. m
- Can test vehicles up to five metres in length and 2.5 metres in height
- Background noise level below 20 dBA, with a 100 Hz cut-off frequency
- Accreditation valid through July 2030
- Covers compressors, pumps, braking systems, steering systems, electric motors and electronic systems
Why it matters
Through NABL's international mutual recognition framework, test reports from the accredited lab can be recognised across more than 100 countries, which can support customer programmes aimed at both domestic and overseas markets. The company says the facility is one of the few NABL-accredited Hemi Anechoic Chambers in India.
The proving ground, inaugurated in 2001 as India's first privately owned automotive proving ground, is TUV-certified and also includes ABS/EBS braking tracks, ESC validation infrastructure, high-speed and gradient tracks and EV charging facilities. It today serves more than 50 customers, including OEMs, suppliers and technology partners. Accredited testing services are also offered to external customers.
Company context
The company reported total revenue of ₹4,302 crore for the financial year ended 2025-26, has approximately 5,000 employees and operates across six plant locations in India.
How to read this
This is a capability and certification milestone rather than an order win or a financial event. No revenue impact or contract value is stated, so the benefit is qualitative: faster, independently validated testing for internal product development and for external customers.
