What was announced
Rain Industries informed the exchanges of a joint press release dated September 24, 2026 by its wholly owned subsidiary Rain Carbon Inc. and BioBTX BV, a circular chemistry technology developer based in Groningen, the Netherlands. The two have announced a strategic collaboration to supply renewable aromatic products to the chemical industry.
The project
- BioBTX announced a positive Final Investment Decision in July 2026 for its first commercial-scale plant in Delfzijl, the Netherlands.
- The plant uses BioBTX's proprietary Integrated Catalytic Cracking Process (ICCP) to convert plastic waste into about 10,000 tonnes per year of renewable aromatic oil containing benzene, toluene, xylenes and other aromatic products.
- It is expected to become operational in early 2028.
Rain Carbon's role
Rain Carbon will convert BioBTX's circular aromatic oil into benzene, phthalic anhydride and other aromatic derivatives that the companies say meet the same quality and performance standards as conventional fossil-based products, helping customers lower the carbon footprint of their supply chains.
Management comments
Rain Carbon's EVP Carbon Distillation & Advanced Materials said the partnership fits the company's mission to create value from alternative carbon sources. BioBTX's CEO said there has been significant interest in the renewable aromatic oil from companies in pharmaceuticals, coatings, toys and automotive applications.
How investors may read it
This is a strategic tie-up positioning Rain Carbon in circular and renewable aromatics, with volumes linked to a plant targeted for operation in early 2028. The release itself carries a forward-looking-statements caution, noting that actual outcomes of the collaboration may differ.
