Debt-free status
The company says it has discharged the entire outstanding debt of its 14 consortium banks, ahead of the scheduled due dates under the settlement agreement dated September 30, 2024. It states that it now carries zero bank borrowings, and that all charges, securities, guarantees (personal as well as corporate) and undertakings provided by the company and by the personal and corporate guarantors stand fully released. Interest costs are expected to reduce significantly from the second half of FY27, which the company expects to have a positive impact on net profit.
Export receivables
The company received remittances of about ₹142 Cr from export debtors during the quarter, following negotiations and resolving of issues between the company and the export debtors. This is described as the start of realisation of long-pending receivables.
Growth plans set out in the presentation
- Retail expansion: a plan to roll out up to 100 large-format showrooms across Tier I, Tier II and Tier III cities over the next 12–18 months, as a mix of own and asset-light franchise stores. The company says it is confident of starting to establish new showrooms in this financial year itself.
- Micro-franchise network: MoUs already executed with NSDC under the Government of India and with the Government of Uttar Pradesh under the CM YUVA scheme, for onboarding of up to 2,00,000 and 1,000 franchisee partners respectively under the PC Jeweller brand, aimed at Tier 4 and below markets.
- New brand for GEN-Z customers: the company is working on and planning to launch a new jewellery brand focused on demi-fine / lightweight jewellery and lab-grown-diamond fine jewellery, a segment it says typically carries materially higher gross margins and is capital efficient.
- Gold mining: PCJ Mining SARL, a step-down subsidiary, holds a licence for semi-mechanized artisanal mining of gold in the Republic of Chad and commenced on-site development work during the quarter, as a step towards backward integration into gold sourcing.
- Festive readiness: showrooms are positioned to meet demand through the festive and wedding season, which falls largely in the second half of the year.
What to keep in mind
The presentation states that forward-looking statements involve risks and uncertainties, including fluctuations in gold and diamond prices, consumer demand, competition, changes in government policies and regulations, and general economic conditions in India and overseas. The showroom rollout, new brand and mining activities are described as plans or work in progress.
