What was announced
KFin Technologies and the Association of Portfolio Managers in India (APMI) announced the launch of InPro, an Anti Money Laundering (AML) and compliance operations platform built for India's Portfolio Management Services (PMS) industry. APMI has adopted InPro as the central AML compliance platform for its members.
The platform was launched by Shri Tuhin Kanta Pandey, Chairman, SEBI, at APMI's 3rd Annual Conference at the Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai.
What the platform does
- Screens investor profiles against global sanctions lists, Indian debarment lists, PEP databases, regulatory watchlists and adverse media sources.
- Screening at onboarding and again when customer information or risk indicators change, enabling continuous monitoring.
- Potential matches go through a structured Maker Checker workflow so compliance teams can review alerts, resolve false positives and escalate cases.
- Maintains historical records of screening activity, alerts and decisions, creating an audit ready trail.
- Supports near real time decisioning and downstream action through system integrations.
Why industry-level adoption matters
AML and CFT obligations apply to all SEBI registered portfolio managers regardless of size, but the ability to build such technology varies. Industry-wide adoption lets members, including emerging and boutique firms, use shared infrastructure and economies of scale instead of building it themselves. The stated benefits include shared infrastructure, cost efficiency, common compliance standards and accessibility for smaller and mid sized firms.
Management commentary
Sreekanth Nadella, MD & CEO, said AML cannot remain a point-in-time check and InPro brings screening, monitoring, case management and decision trails onto a single platform. Vikas Khemani, Chairman, APMI, said the adoption aims to make technology enabled AML capabilities accessible to portfolio managers irrespective of scale.
