Why value growth trails volume
Management said the 7.8% value growth came on the back of double-digit volume growth, and that value growth trails volume because green coffee prices have come down. Asked where volume growth sat, management placed it in the range of 10% to 15%.
Domestic and branded business
- Domestic business gross turnover was INR210 crores in the quarter, of which brand sales were approximately INR140 crores.
- The branded business is growing at 25%, which management said is backed completely by volume growth in the domestic market and is coming from all channels, including general trade, modern trade and e-commerce.
- On pricing, management said some domestic SKUs saw price drops while some saw price increases, describing it as a mixed bag.
Guidance given by management
Management said the Q3 and Q4 order position looks robust and it expects to end the year exactly as per the guidance given at the start of the year, which was around 15% volume growth and a similar EBITDA growth.
Coffee price view
Green coffee prices were described as still fluctuating but range bound between USD3,400 and USD3,800 per ton, and not having broken away from the USD3,700 to USD3,800 levels. The Vietnam crop, expected around November-December, was named as the event that will decide future price trends.
Product mix
Management said fill-and-dry (FD) utilisations are much better and world market FD demand has been better than spray dried (SD) demand, while the proportion between the two has stayed similar to the last two to three quarters.
Balance sheet
Gross debt as at 30 September was INR1,192 crores and net debt was around INR742 crores.
