What the update covers
Bank of India has submitted the Reconciliation of Share Capital Audit Report for the quarter ended 30 September 2026 to BSE and NSE, prepared and certified by Pradeep Purwar & Associates, Company Secretaries. The report reconciles the shares the Bank has issued with the shares actually listed on the exchanges, and sets out the form in which investors hold them. It covers the Bank and its Registrar and Share Transfer Agent, Bigshare Services Private Limited.
Share capital at a glance
- Issued capital: 4,55,38,44,966 equity shares
- Listed capital: 4,55,26,67,866 shares, or 99.97% of issued capital
- The difference between the two is ~11.77 lakh shares, which are not listed on the stock exchanges
How the shares are held
- In dematerialised form with CDSL: 76.55%
- In dematerialised form with NSDL: 23.25%
- The balance is held in physical form
So almost the entire shareholding is held electronically, and only a small slice remains in paper certificates.
Why ~11.77 lakh shares are not listed
The Bank had forfeited ~11.85 lakh equity shares in March 2003. Forfeiture of a part of those shares has since been annulled, and ~11.77 lakh shares remain unlisted. They are counted in issued capital but not in listed capital, which is why the two figures differ. The report notes there is no other reason for the difference.
Who holds the biggest block
~334.09 crore equity shares are held by the Central Government and are not tradable. That is the single largest block of the Bank's equity capital.
Records and requests
- The Register of Members is updated
- No demat requests were confirmed after 21 days, and none were pending beyond 21 days
- No excess dematerialised shares were reported for the previous quarter
- Bigshare Services Private Limited is the common agency for share registry work
What this means for a retail investor
This is a routine quarterly certificate about the Bank's share capital and shareholding records. It shows that the listed capital is in line with the Bank's records, that nearly all the equity is listed and held in demat form, and that share transfer or demat requests are not pending. The certificate deals only with share capital; it does not cover the Bank's business, earnings or asset quality.
